Keetmans' is the cutest town of the southern hemisphere! It is a small town of some 16.000 souls not far from the South African border. Despite its small size it is by far the largest settlement in the southern part of Namibia. Therefore it is sometimes called "the capital of the South".

Keetmanshoop is surrounded by the dusty Kalahari semi-desert. You can see mountains ranges far off in the distance. The endless dry plains appear to be devoid of anything but rocks and scrub at first sight, but after a few days I came to value an unexpected variety within the landscape and of species of animals that it does harbor. This setting, with its vast ostrich ranches, 19th century colonial architecture and a saloony kind of bars gave me a strange impression not quite unlike the old Wild West.
